After the first round the picture of England being the strongest looking team, as we mentioned in our previous blog, is emerging.
But before we get into the chances, a big shout out to Robbie Henshaw who was absolutely brilliant on Saturday! What a credit to Connacht Rugby he is. There were many great performances including O’Donnell who was superb and reacted like a seasoned professional when called upon.
England have been given a massive 99.33% implied probability of beating Italy which seems reasonable but in a two horse race its incredibly one sided to the point where Italy have been given only a .0067% chance!
Ireland are given a 69% chance against the French next week in Landsdowne Road while France are rated at just 36%, which makes me nervous! This match will feel like a 50-50 affair in truth and Ireland have a massive game on their hands. The French showed on Saturday that when they want to play, they can. They’re powerful, fast and unpredictable.
Scotland fared well against France and I think they’ll beat Wales although Scotland are given a 44% chance while visiting Wales are at 64%.
Generally Joe Schmidt continues to be the best coach in the business while Lancaster is also doing a great job at England. Vernon warrants a mention as another clever and determined coach for Scotland and this is clearly evident in their play. Roll on next weekend!
