The US masters is upon us again. There has been lots of talk about an Irish win because Tiger Woods is out, the logic being that every time Woods has been out, an Irish golfer has won.
If only this was the case!
The bookies are usually a great place to start when looking at contenders. We have three Irish golfers: McIlroy, Clarke and McDowell each with odds of around 10/1, 400/1 and 55/1 respectively.
These odds indicate that McIlroy has just over a 9% chance of winning, Clarke with pretty much no chance at .25% and McDowell faring slightly better on almost a 2% chance of winning.
So, the odds of an Irish are slim enough to be honest, and our chances of an Irish win come in at around 10%.
There are several ways to look at the fact that Woods isn’t playing and we reckon the bookies have it right…..again!
Mind you, a 10% chance of an Irish win in a field of almost 100 contenders is not too bad and worth a punt.
